Build-in Storage

In order to maximize space, build-in cabinets and wardrobes are commonly found in Hong Kong. It costs more to customer-make these cabinets than to buy them off the shelf. However, I strongly believe good quality carpenter work will help gel the entire design together, giving it a holistic look. (Other furniture such as the bed is better off buying it from the store. They are longer lasting and can be transferable when you do move flat.

There are however a million decisions to be made just on one design: shape, material, color (inside and outside), interior, style of door, handles........

Here are some inspirational photos for you:

A user-friendly 'invisible closet'. They almost look like they are part of the walls and wast no space. This one has beautiful molding and handle. I love the color as well. To make it even more invisible, paint it the same color of your wall or just slightly different.

Having mirror cabinet doors will make the room seems bigger by reflecting lights and illusion of space. I am having on of these in my bedroom which can also double up as mirror. Mirror doors are very complimentary with these type of thin silvery metal handles.

Love the how the designer use a combination of grey paint and wood here.

Closed part of the closet and leave other sections expose.

Another great demonstration of having a combination of doors, shelves and drawers. I am having a very similar layout for my bedroom closet. The platform above the drawers are great for having TVs.

You can either just leave the open area open.

Or install sliding doors to close it off when not in use.

Folding doors work too and for smaller closet space.

I'm sure there is a proper name for these types of doors. They can be used as swing doors or completely tucked inside the cabinet.
